About the Event

Indian Summer Concert

On Sunday, October 22, 2023, "Dokwerk Saxophone Quartet" will grace the stage at Het Podium Pfanner, presenting the Indian Summer Concert at MFA de Schans in Arcen, located at Burgemeester van Soest-Jansbekenplein 3. The concert starts at 11:30 AM. During this performance, the saxophone quartet will enchant the audience with works by Ferenc Farkas, Ramin Amin Tafreshi, Philip Glass, Ian Wilson, Kurt Weill, and Astor Piazzolla.

The "Dokwerk Saxophone Quartet" is a youthful and dynamic chamber music ensemble formed in 2019. Hailing from different corners of the world, these four young musicians came together in culturally rich Amsterdam. Lisa Schreiber (soprano saxophone), Jen-Hong Wu (alto saxophone), Ileana Termini (tenor saxophone), and Pedro Silva (baritone saxophone) are currently studying at the Conservatorium Amsterdam under the guidance of the renowned Dutch saxophonist, Arno Bornkamp.

This ensemble is no stranger to accolades, often finding themselves among the winners of various chamber music competitions. In 2021, they clinched the 1st prize at the International Competition "Vítor Santos" in Portugal. Subsequently, they were invited to record their debut CD, 'Intersections,' in the summer of 2023. They shared the top prize at the Italian Contemporary Music Competition 'Reate' and celebrated their Italian debut in Rome at the end of 2022. Additionally, they took home both the 1st prize and the Podium Prize at the Dutch 'Gelre Chamber Music Competition 2022.'

As part of their internationally renowned saxophone class, they have graced the grand stages of the Concertgebouw and the Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ. They made their quartet debut at Tivoli Vredenburg in Utrecht and have performed at festivals like the Grachtenfestival and the Schiermonnikoog Festival. You can also catch them regularly on national public radio and television.

With a thirst for knowledge and a constant eagerness to broaden their horizons, they attend masterclasses worldwide and draw inspiration from the works of significant saxophonists in history. They also seek guidance from other sources such as baroque specialist Walter van Hauwe and contemporary music expert, composer, and percussionist Arnold Marinissen. Furthermore, the quartet is part of the NSKA, the Netherlands String Quartet Academy, where they have the opportunity to work with artistic director Marc Danel and learn from a rich tradition.

By combining their individual cultures and backgrounds, these four musicians possess a wide range of musical possibilities and choices. Open-minded and unrestrained, they aspire to secure a permanent place for the classical saxophone in today's and tomorrow's music!

Admission is €15, and the concert lasts for 60 minutes without an intermission.

Refreshments afterward are at your own expense.
