About the Event
The young pianist Ramon van Engelenhoven presents not one, but two premieres in this concert. The Dutch premiere of Sanzui by Masashi Hamauzu, an impression of Japan, kicks off this recital, followed by further impressionist works by Debussy and Liszt. After the break, Van Engelenhoven plays Prokofiev's Sonata No. 8 , perhaps his richest piano work. Van Engelenhoven is no stranger to the composer, NRC praises a recent performance: 'This music could easily be hammered away, but Van Engelenhoven's dreamlike playing proves that there are stronger ways to be moved. The monumental sonata is preceded by the world premiere of Prelude for piano by Iranian composer Ramin Amin Tafreshi.
