Les Cigales (Arrangement)

Originally written for voice and piano by the French composer, Emmanuel Chabrier, the piece is arranged for chamber ensemble and voice in unconventional ways both in style and instrumentation. My aim throughout this arrangement was to push the boundaries and challenge traditional notions of classical music arrangements. By embracing an out-of-the-box approach.

For creating this arrangement, above the musical material of the work, the focus is mainly on the text's interpretations and acoustic qualities of the original piece. Hence, finding the characteristic features of the piece was the main goal. Consequently, I set myself free to explore without being completely loyal to the original work and tried to explore the expressive potential of the ensemble.

In "Les Cigales" the acoustic of a sustained pedal on a piano and the narrative story behind the text were my initial inspiration.
