Saoshyant is my second short opera, which was created in collaboration with the Opera Forward Festival at the Dutch National Opera in March 2021. An adjusted version of the first act was recorded and broadcast during the festival under the direction of director Sjaron Minailo.
Saoshyant, meaning 'the one who benefits' in the Avestan language, is believed to be the savior who will overcome evil and perfect the world. In my adaptation of this renowned tale from Shahnameh, the audience is transported to the mythical kingdom of Zahhak as we search for the true 'Saoshyant' of the story. Through the opera, the viewer gains insight into the composer's creative process and exploration of the concept of a savior, delving into its implications for humanity and our relationships with others.
