Two Edison Klassiek-Nominated Albums Featuring My Works šš

The Edison Klassiek 2026 has brought me a wonderful and very special surprise: two albums featuring my music have been nominated this year. The first is RhapsodosĀ by harpist Joost Willemze (7 Mountain Records), featuring my Event Horizon: The Point of No Return. The second is PalpitationsĀ by bassoonist Thomas Dulfer (TRPTK), featuring my ICD-11: Bc9z. It is a wonderful achievement for both my dear friends, Joost and Thomas, to create such powerful albums and to be recognised through these nominations for such a prestigious award.

What makes both nominations so special and meaningful for me is that both works are electro-acoustic pieces created through my collaboration with my long-time artistic partner and live electronics musician, Soheil Shayesteh. Having both of our pieces find their place on these albums makes me incredibly proud and grateful.
On the one hand, it has been a long process for Soheil and me to find our unique voice through these collaborative projects, but on the other hand, we have experienced fulfilling journeys with both pieces over the past three years that have given us motivation and lots of inspiration to keep our creative fire burning for our future creations. Being included in both of these nominated albums is one of those special moments.
Both pieces grew out of my artistic collaboration with Soheil and became an opportunity for us to find common ground between our two quite distinct aesthetics. Beyond creating the pieces themselves, we wanted to explore new sonic possibilities for the instruments, not only through their physical qualities and extended playing techniques, but also through sampling and processing their sounds and merging the acoustic and electronic elements into an immersive experience. On the other hand, in both pieces, we had a sense of narrative in mind, connected to the particular story or concept behind each project. These narratives became an important part of the creative process and influenced the way we approached the sound, rhythm, pitch organization, melodies, and the interaction between the acoustic instruments and electronics. The whole process, therefore, gave us the chance to explore how the acoustic instruments and live electronics could interact with and influence one another, and how to make space for a quasi-improvisational approach for the players.
